Column: Planes, trains and automobiles

As things open up more and more on a daily basis, I remember how busy our little town can be when things go without restrictions and events take off.

As things open up more and more on a daily basis, I remember how busy our little town can be when things go without restrictions and events take off.

Take this weekend for example; Saturday is going to be a whirlwind of activity. Just about anything transportation-related (past and present) can be enjoyed over a weekend. This is the ultimate transportation themed stay for travel enthusiasts to Airdrie.

It has been quite a few years since we had an air show in our little air park. While we won’t have a real air show on Saturday, we will be the fourth and final stop on the Alberta Air Tour 2021. Starting at 11:00 am, vintage planes will land at Airdrie Air Park for enthusiasts. local aviation authorities can experience aviation history up close. The event is sponsored by Local MP Angela Pitt and aims not only to celebrate Alberta’s aviation sector, but also to inspire the next generation of potential pilots. This is a free family event.

Also on Saturday will be the return of the Time Travelers Car Club’s annual show-and-shine to Nose Creek Regional Park. This annual event was greatly missed during last year’s pandemic, as it typically attracts over 400 classic car entries. From classic cars to old and new muscle cars, it’s not just a nostalgic glimpse of automobiles from the past, but a really cool display of some of the newest and most innovative vehicles. The event usually attracts a lot of really cool motorcycles.

There will be live performances and on-site food trucks to fill the stomach throughout the day. Although the auto show is a free family event, be sure to take advantage of their 50/50 draws and donate if you can, as all money raised through this event is used to support charities. local charities right here in Airdrie.

Finally, if you haven’t yet taken the family to Iron Horse Park this year, this Sunday would be the perfect day to do so. The whole family can take replica vintage trains throughout the park, learn a bit of railway history from the volunteers, and maybe buy a few snacks or souvenirs at the park station. It’s a great place to spend an afternoon and it’s always fun for the kids.

Not only is it a great weekend for travel enthusiasts, but it’s also a photographer’s dream. Be sure to bring your camera wherever you go this weekend, and if the spirit moves you, send us some of your favorite best photos here at Airdrie city view office too.
